Working to Resolve Issues Facing the Country

Addressing the Cost of Living
From increases in the cost of basic groceries to increases in the cost of energy, housing and insurance, people are worried about their futures. I will work toward:
-
restore Congress' control over tariff policy
-
reform auto insurance, restricting increases after a claim
-
restore renewable energy policies, give homeowners more options to produce and use their own energy
Checking Presidential Power
Most presidents have willingly followed the unwritten rules that governed the expectations of The Office - these are called 'norms and traditions' and have been stressed tested to the point of breaking. If elected, I'll work with my follow lawmakers to codify these unwritten rules into law, namely the power of a president to
-
freely pardon
-
run for office without disclosing tax returns
-
hire family
-
profit office the presidency

Smart Regulation of AI
We've been told that artificial intelligence (AI) is a game changer in terms of finding cures for disease and making our work more efficient. But, this power has the potential create chaos if not properly regulated. Therefore, I'll work with other congressional leaders to regulate AI and protect:
-
the environment as it relates to the building of new data centers,
-
our children and their ability to independently learn and land a future job, and
-
content creators from copyright infringement
Modernizing Congressional Processes
The hyper polarization in Washington needs to end - this has been said for years and years. But, the current dysfunction was unfathomable when the Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich began this crusade in the mid-1990s. His actions quietly launched the economy of hate that dominates our current politics under Mike Johnson.
I'm tired, we're all tired of the nonsense. We need to restore good governance as our North Star for seeking office. Create bipartisan committees that outline goals and objectives in advance, offer progress reports to their districts, and care more about governing than profiting off the office.
If elected, I'd continue the work began by Congressman Derek Kilmer, Washington state Democrat, who co-chaired the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress.

In a time when political landscapes are shifting rapidly, the call for getting-things-done resonates louder than ever. The need for fresh perspectives and innovative solutions in Congress is critical. This is why Carin has decided to run. With a vision that prioritizes district needs and a commitment to transparency, Carin represents leadership that will seek to bridge the gap between constituents and congress. She truly understands that she works for the district and your tax dollars would pay her salary.
Working to Convince Voters that Representation Matters
Representation matters. This has been repeated many, many times. And yet, many voters don't believe that their government will listen. When constituents feel that their voices are not heard, they become disengaged. Carin understands this fundamental truth and aims to create a more inclusive political environment. By prioritizing community engagement, Carin seeks to ensure that voices are valued and considered in the decision-making process.
Combatting Polarization and the Anger Economy
Polarization seems synonymous with Washington politics - it's been the strategy and not the bug for years. As a result, most citizens feel disconnected from their representatives, leading to continued distrust in government. This disconnect resulted in low voter turnout for years. More recently, typical abstainers - inspired by lies, misinformation, and conspiracy theories - became more engaged. Obviously, increased engagement and higher voter turnout is the objective. Unfortunately, this created a deep fissure within the country - beyond political discourse. The time is now for leaders to combat the polarization and work toward common solutions. Working together is essential.
Addressing Transportation Deserts and Building a True Bike Friendly Bay
As a parent of a young adult who does not drive and will not drive, Carin wants to create incentives within the District to improve bus service making it safer and more reliable, and provide safe places to lock and store bikes. Having lived in The Netherlands for close to five years, Carin and her family benefited from a well thought public transportation system. In the Bay Area, we could be leaders in building infrastructure that truly supports alternative transportation solutions.
Importance of Grassroots Organizations & Collaboration
Grassroots movements, such as No Kings, play a vital role in driving change. Carin recognizes the power of collective action and will wholeheartedly support local organizations that advocate for environmental protection, affordability, and protecting our democracy. By partnering with local organizations, Carin can amplify their efforts and reach a wider audience. This hope is that collaboration fosters a sense of community and encourages skeptical residents to get involved in causes for which they care.
Importance of Voter Turnout
Voter engagement is crucial for a healthy democracy. Carin believes that every eligible citizen should have the opportunity to participate in the electoral process. Carin is committed to educating voters about their rights and the voting process. By providing resources and information, Carin aims to empower citizens to make informed decisions at the polls. Encouraging voter participation is essential.
